Our mission

ICCO's mission is to work towards a world in which people live in dignity and prosperity, a world where poverty and injustice are no longer present.

ICCO's work consists of financing activities which stimulate and enable people, in their own ways, to organise dignified housing and living conditions. ICCO is active in countries in Africa and the Middle East, in Latin America and the Caribbean, and in Asia, Oceania and Eastern Europe.

Every human being is entitled to respect and equal treatment and has a responsibility to treat others in the same manner. Based on the biblical principles of ‘charity, justice and the purity of creation' ICCO works towards sustainable poverty alleviation. Human rights constitute a fundamental principle in our work.

ICCO co-operates with church and non-church organisations which are directly involved with the people, our prime target group. ICCO respects the individual culture, history, and social role of the organisations concerned. In its collaborations, ICCO considers it important to actively listen to, and think along with these organisations.

ICCO has its roots in the Dutch Protestant churches and is partner in various national and international collaborations. ICCO will co-operate with anyone who shares its ideals. ICCO actively engages in such a wide range of collaborations to boost the impacts of its funding work and to mobilise the expertise and information that we have at our disposalwithin our organisation for lobbying and counselling purposes.

ICCO finds its inspiration in the Christian tradition and mission and in the experiences and stories from partners who mostly have a different cultural background and who have different sources of inspiration.

ICCO is one of six co-financing organisations in the Netherlands and has an annual budget of more than 160 million euros. These funds are provided by the Dutch government, the European institutions and the organisations participating in the ICCO alliance. ICCO is accountable to the government and the public for the way in which these funds are spent.
